Able 20

The Able 20 was designed by W. R. Loughlin.  

The boat in the Whitby Marina was, according to the inset in the fiberglass of the cockpit sole, built in Miami, Florida.

There is no HIN and no hull  number.  

The inscription reads: 

Able

Hull No:

Designed and built by

Loughlin Boat Wks.  

Miami, Fl.

Other Able 20 boats have been advertised as built by Able Shipwrights Inc., East Hampton, Connecticut.

Apparently a Crozier Fox bought the molds from the Connecticut company and moved production to Southwest Harbour, Maine.  

Specifications for the Maine built boats are:

LOA: 20 feet

LWL: 16 feet

Beam: 7' 4"

Draft: 2' 6"

Displ.: 2500 lbs.

Ballast: 1000 lbs.

Sail Area: 201 or 214 sq. ft.

6 foot cockpit for day sailing.

Sleeps 4. 

The boat was also sold in a kit. 

The layout is traditional with accommodations for two in the v-berth and a port and starboard settee each that extends under the cockpit for two more.  

There is a galley amidships - starboard.
